Project Description:
The National Center for Computational Sciences (www.nccs.gov) is looking for a post Doctoral Researcher to conduct research and development in `Data Management for Petascale Scientific Applications`. The successful candidate will work in a team with researchers of the End-to-End Task Group of NCCS, researchers from the Scientific Data Management Center (http://sdm.lbl.gov/sdmcenter), as well as applications scientists on large-scale data-intensive and computationally intensive scientific workflows, and the associated management issues.
Qualifications:
Position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Applicants should have completed their PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or should be very near completion (the position is open until filled), and have experiences or background in one or more of the following:
1. parallel and distributed computing
2. data /computational Grid systems and middleware
3. solid programming experience (e.g. C, Java, Perl, Python)
4. concepts of workflow languages and systems
5. databases
The applicant should have an interest to interact with scientists from application domains to understand the technology they use, and to apply and adapt CS techniques to these domains. The successful candidate will join End-to-End Task Group at NCCS. Scientific workflows need to be created for various simulation codes to monitor them, to perform analysis and visualization on their output, to archive data and to couple such codes into an integrated framework. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application appointment and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
